They're not that exciting, and they are fairly obvious, but they are videos of a Pi, and always makes me happy.

Not desperately exciting, as you say, but it looks to me as if that is a real production Pi and he is taking time to produce a short video where he is plugging in the cables and booting up so you get an impression of response times.

I don't think it is a production model as it has a GPIO header attached.

The first batch of production boards do have the GPIO header attached.  It was left on the Bill of Materials so the factory put them in.

These videos should be actively showing ESD protection. How many pi"s are gonna be zapped by the unwary?

We've had no problems with ESD in the office on the Alpha boards, and in general, ESD protection is something that just happens to other people. I just bung it in my rucksack to move it about, no issue at all.

The general public won"t be in an office but on the carpet in front of the tv. Hopefully schools will be better equipped/informed.
I"d get shot at work if I carried around a populated pcb without any esd protection. Better be safe than sorry.

To be honest I can't feel very concerned about this. If you buy a fast car the manufacturer is not required to tell you that driving fast is dangerous. If you buy a bare board you should know how to handle it. And if you don't then you should educate yourself.

As the Vogon captain said,

I'm sorry, but if you can't be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that's your own lookout.

Straightforward stuff.

Probably is a production unit, its got a compact SD card holder that doesn't stick out from the board.  It boots smoothly and Debian goes into the GUI with minimal incantation, though it could do with being set up to boot direct to GUI when the proper public release takes place later this year.

Lets remind ourselves YET again that these are "Development" boards.  Anyone who wants to use them should be aware of things like ESD protection anyway and behave as they usually do with a populated but unclothed board.  Otherwise, its a case of "Caveat Emptor".  Consumer Raspberry Pis will be cased so the problem will go away.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The board I have I have never bothered with ESD protection - take it from work to home, carpets and no carpets, unprotected in a rucksack. It works fine.

Individual components can suffer from ESD, but once a board is populated, the probability of ESD problems is reduced dramatically.

Well, they are development boards, but they have been made available to everyone. So not everyone who uses them will be aware of ESD, but I don't think its going to be much of a problem anyway.

Yes I think it is a production unit because the SD holder is not protruding, there is not the power rail mod (read wire link or solder bridge by the logo) also the PCB no. to the right of the logo (when viewed normal way up) is missing.

So I'm very excited and surprised no one else has spotted it!

You are easily excited.

We better stand back when your Pi actually arrives!
