RPi running VNC Client (Solved)

Thu Apr 25, 2013 7:33 pm

There is a lot on information about the RPi running headless now I want to work the other way.

Bit of background for my sins I help with a Basketball team we have this really good huge double scoreboard built by Daktronics it's controller sits in a media room where you can watch the scoreboards on onscreen mirrored monitor windows but you can't see the game.

So to enable you to do both the controller runs UltraVNC this is a standard vnc server you can log into it over the network with a laptop running a TightVNC client or Ultra VNC client from a table where you can watch the game. As it happens the laptop is loaded with Ultra VNC.

So at this time we are tying up a high end laptop to run a button screen on this scoreboard controller (Venus 7000 for those interested) Windows XP Pro.

What I would like to do is use a RaspberryPi "B" and a cheap TV to do the job of the laptop.

Its the closed season for Basketball so I have a couple of months to sort this.

I was told there was some VNC utility that runs with ssh tunneling (sshvnc viewer) that is lighter than Tight VNC.

Is there anyone who can help me make a Noob guide instructions. ;)
Noob is not derogatory the noob is just the lower end of the noob--geek spectrum being a noob is just your first step towards being an uber-geek ;)

If you find a solution please post it in the wiki the forum dies too quick

I've run remmina on a Pi. It was straightforward enough.

(It was actually controlling a second Pi. The 2nd Pi was headless, with both x11vnc on :0 and tightvncserver on :1.)
