Streaming AM radio

Mon Apr 22, 2013 10:58 pm

I'd like to create an AM radio streamer using an RPi. I'm in the states and I'd like to do a private stream for myself to listen to baseball games when I'm on the road. The local station is AM and my normal commute takes me out of reception range. I'm pretty much never out of data coverage on my phone though.

I thought I might be able to attach either an AM radio to USB (Such as the Griffin RadioShark which looks discontinued) or a USB "sound card" with a mic input that I can attach a small AM radio to. The second option seems a little more achievable but the first would be cleaner.

Any suggestions for how I can make this work? I'd rather not buy a bunch of stuff to test it but I know I might have to go down that road. har har

Since no one has replied to this; I just picked up a radioshark2 from amazon, and I plan to use the pi as a monitoring device and generic utility box to handle things like updating stream info to the website, updating news, etc. I did find some code for the radioshark to control it.., but I'm having an issue getting it to compile - still working on it..
