64GB Memory Stick/Drive not recognised

Thu Apr 18, 2013 1:50 pm

Hi, I have an problem I cannot seem to the find answer to. (yes I have googled many times).

I have a 64GB memory stick in my Rasp Pi (running bmc) but it won't be recognised.

I have tried other usb sticks (2gb, 8gb, 16gb), and they all work fine.

I have tried running it from a powered usb hub and updating from stable version to nightly build. Still nothing.

I have recently installed putty and ran "tail -f /var/log/messages"

It shows the USB drive there, but it says "sda: unknown partition table"

How can I fix this issue?

Many Thanks,
Chris.

The largest USB stick I've tried is 32Gb - the bigger/faster they are they appear to need more current. What does "lsusb" and "usb-devices" report about the device (you my like to compare with my table at http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... rives.html )? Your error message (above), however, suggests that the drive may not be formatted correctly - can you write and read from it elsewhere?
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

I can write/read OK on Windows 7, Is there a program which can restore the USB drive to it's default format/specifications and restore the original MBR (Master Boot Record)? MBR may be an issue? I'm not sure myself.

I have tried running the usb from a powered usb hub, still no change. :(
