Re: Expensive shipping from Singapore to Indonesia

Yesterday I Pre-ordered a Type B Raspberry Pi on element14 Singapore's website, the Total is S$ 55 including S$ 10 shipping cost which is Ok with Me.

But today I got a mail from them it is S$ 30 shipping instead of S$ 10, that's 66% of the total of Raspberry Pi's price.

S$ 30 is about U$ 24 Dollar, that's huge, I checked Singapore Post going rate and for a packet of 200 Grams (it's probably half-100 Grams) it should be S$ 2.65, I understand there is also handling but charging about 27 Sing Dollars extra is just insane.

Also there is bulk shipping and then the shipping cost is S$ 30, but this isn't bulk is it?

Raspberry Pi is cheap because it should be available to many of the world's "poor" people yet when they charge insane amounts of shipping the whole concept is lost.

Kinda fishy

Indonesia, Java where I live is just around the corner of Singapore, why so expensive.

If they want to make money that's fine with Me, but don't change the rules halfway, and if they charge Me U$ 5 extra on the price of the Raspberry Pi I would be fine yet I find this more or less like ebay where some people sell things cheaper than others yet the shipping costs are outrageous.

Your take on this please.

Delivery charges and local taxes are matters to take up with the distributor and your government respectively.

It is not the concern of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and there's no point in raising the matter here.

Please contact element14 Singapore to express your concerns.

The Korean price MUST be some mistake. 70,050 KRW is around $62.35 and the site states that the price is "Subject to applicable national and local taxes and input duty"

On launch day, the quoted price was 41,850 KRW.

For me though, the statement about the price including delivery makes a big difference as that would have been an extra $25.

I reiterate what Jongoleur says - the Foundation has litte/ no control over the delivery costs (we do ensure the price of the basic board is $35). So if you have any problems you will need to approach the distributor and ask them.

I would add that as far as I can tell, the distribution costs (as long as there hasn't been an error made), have been sensible.
