Re: Model A or Model B?

Sun Mar 11, 2012 5:56 am

Hi I am a student from India planning to buy a Raspberry Pi. I read the specifications and found that the model B which costs $10 more comes with an extra USB port and an ethernet jack. Are there any more extra accessories in B model? I dont have an wired connection at home and connect to internet using a wireless data card that connects with an USB port. if I buy the model A and an USB hub will I be able to connect keyboard, mouse and the data card in the same USB port?

Thanks in advance

short answer: yes. You will be able to connect the raspi to as many usb accessories as you'd like using the usb hub. However, if you connect an usb drive and an usb wifi dongle at the same time, don't expect the speed of either one to be optimistic.

This link should answer some of your questions.

You only get the board at this time and all other items needed such as cables/SD card/Powered USB hub/power supply/ monitor or TV you will have to provide.

It would definitely be good to look at power requirements to obtain the correct supply and look at this link.

http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup for loading your card for the device.

The first page has a link to this page also.

Hope this help answer your questions.
If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.

If you're wanting to use keyboard, mouse, USB drive AND WiFi dongle on your hub, its best to get a powered hub to make sure that all your USB devices work correctly.

At present, the Model A is not being manufactured, all effort is being put into the Model B.  You may have to wait a while to order a Model A.
