Edimax EW-7811Un Problems[SOLVED]

Thu Apr 04, 2013 12:30 am

Heya,
I have been trying to get my Pi up and running on Wi-Fi for a good couple of months now,
I am a newbie at Linux and this kinda thing in general, but I can't get it working for the life of me.
I have connected it up via Ethernet and that runs fine, allowing me to use VNC, etc.
Also the dongle seems to work fine as it is picking up my neighbors Wi-Fi perfectly, it just hasn't ever picked up mine. I've tried changing security keys, downgrading Wheezy, moving the Pi closer to the router (worth a shot, right?) and all sorts. I really don't want to invest in a powered hub to be honest, as I've been talking to other people in the exact same situation as me and theirs work fine.
Is there anything anyone can recommend me trying?
Ultimately I was just gunna whack on Raspbmc and use it as a media center for a couple of my rooms.

Cheers for any replies guys!

The obvious is that you have a hidden SSID?

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have a hidden SSID as far as I'm aware, my laptop, iphone, etc, all connect to it fine?

Is your AP using the 2.4 or 5GHz frequency band? The Edimax dongle can only use 2.4GHz.

Wow, just wow, I did all that and all I needed to do was change the channel...derp.
But many a thanks my friend, you have literally saved this poor Pi's life from being thrown in a bin!

Have a nice day!
