Sound issues

Sun Mar 31, 2013 12:28 am

So I just got my Raspberry Pi a few days ago and have been learning my way around how to use Linux for the first time (running Raspbian Wheezy) and I can not for the life of me get the sound to work.

I followed the steps on the troubleshooting wiki page to no avail.
Can someone give me an idea of what I can do to get the sound to work? I am testing with headphones ( like the book says I can) so it could possibly be a power issue, but this I am unsure of.

Thanks for any help.

Which book? AFIK the Pi's sound O/P is "high impedence" and therefore only compatible with an audio-amplifier (eg via the A/V audio Red/White RCA inputs on a T.V.) not (un-amplified) headphones of 16 - 32 ohms impedence (e.g. those for MP3 players, IPod's etc.). W.r.t. software issues see my webpages about using a headphones compatible USB-Sound dongle at http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... apter.html and the wiki at http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#Sound for "troubleshooting" sound issues.
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
