No HDMI on Vizio Model E220VA

Wed Mar 27, 2013 7:16 pm

I have recently been able to setup my RPi only to find out I can not get the HDMI working with my TV/Monitor at all.

It is a Vizio E220VA. I have tried going through the boards and looking for a fix but I feel I am missing something. I even tried to follow http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt#Which_ ... monitor.3F but it just came up with 0/0.

I tried same Pi/HDMI cord on a different TV and it worked just fine.

I am running Raspbain "Wheezy" (2013/02/09) but would like to be able to run OpenELEC in the long run.

If there is any other information someone can give me that would be great.

I would start with setting "hdmi_safe=1" as indicated on the elinux.org page that you showed, and if that works, then narrow it down to which one of the commands that "hdmi_safe=1" sets to find the exact problem (In other words disable hdmi_safe=1, and then try hdmi_force_hotplug=1, config_hdmi_boost=4, hdmi_group=2, hdmi_mode=4, disable_overscan=0 one at a time until you find the one that fixed the problem). That is how I was able to get mine to work. In my case my Rev 1 board with an old version of Wheezy worked fine, but the Rev 2 board with Raspbian required that I set hdmi_force_hotplug=1.

My B1 and B2 boards all worked fine until I upgraded to "Wheezy" (2013/02/09) when I also had to invoke "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" (around the same time I acquired a Model A board and that also needed the same "fix" - again "Wheezy" (2013/02/09)). Since I use a 3-port HDMI switcher to select which Pi connects to my HDMI/DVI monitor I presumed it was a issue with the (HDMI) hardware and logged such in the wiki. However, given the number of similar issues posted to the forum it seems likely that something in the (firmware?) boot-up sequence has changed to make "HDMI detection" more "picky"???

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm
