Tried to install gnash - file not found (version mismatch)

Tue Mar 26, 2013 5:37 pm

The following website gave instructions for installing gnash, the Flash player:
http://cagewebdev.com/index.php/raspber ... sh-movies/
when I tried the command:
sudo apt-get install gnash
it gave me the following result:
Err http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/raspbian/ wheezy/main libglu1-mesa armhf 8.0.5-3
404 Not Found
Failed to fetch http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/rasp ... _armhf.deb 404 Not Found
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?
I went to the directory http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/rasp ... in/m/mesa/ and found that all the files have version number 8.0.5_4.

Clearly an update is needed somewhere, but is it something I can do locally, or is it the server? I could try directly installing the deb with the corrected version number, but is that all I need to install to get gnash?

You've done the usual 'sudo apt-get update' prior to attempting your specific installation?

If not, do it.

Well, that was easy. I guess my noob is showing. Too bad there's not enough horsepower to cleanly play a YouTube video.

I never had to do an update to apt-get debs on iOS. I suppose because Cydia does it every time it loads.

Yep. Higher-level package management tools usually provide a little more added functionality than just a GUI.
