Browsing with http not working, but https works

Fri Mar 22, 2013 5:41 am

I just got my new PI, and configured it using a wireless keyboard and mouse, with a WIFI connection. Everything appears to work fine, but when I open the browser, I can only browse to sites that are secure (https), but sites with http do not work. Pinging works fine. No other network problems that I can see.

I am assuming the firewall is somehow blocking outgoing requests on the http port, but I did not do anything to setup the firewall, (if there is one), so I would assume this port is open by default? I guess not. How to I configure the firewall or fix this issue?

You don't say what the extent of this problem is nor exactly what http responses your are seeing.

I assume that you are using a Pi-based browser?
Is it limited to browsing local network or to the wider internet as well?
Are similar systems seen on on systems on your network (if any)?
It would be helpful if you stated what distro you are using.
