RTL8188-hostapd auto start and iptables restore

Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:38 pm

Hi all,

I am using the Edimax EW7811Un in AP mode using hostapd, I installed the RTL8188 specific hostapd from git and then followed the instructions here - http://elinux.org/RPI-Wireless-Hotspot

Everything will start fine from the command line and it works a treat but I am struggling to make it start from boot, when I enter:-

sudo update-rc.d hostapd enable

I get this error

update-rc.d: using dependency based boot sequencing
update-rc.d: error: no runlevel symlinks to modify, aborting!

Also the iptables-restore is not working, in etc/network/interfaces I have:-

up iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.ipv4.nat

But I have to keep re-entering the iptables rules, they are not restoring.

Any advice appreciated
Andy

I had the same hostapd update.rc issue. Apparently the symbolic link to the /etc/init.d/hostapd script is missing in the /etc/rcx.d directories.
I fixed it with this:

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /etc/init.d/hostapd /etc/rc2.d/S02hostapd
When I issue the command "sudo update-rc.d hostapd enable" it still complains that the runlevel 2 overrides the defaults. But the service starts after reboot, so I can live with that.

Maybe this helps...

Hi. Hope this reply isn't too late! Follow the instructions on the blog of the creator of the specific hostapd: https://jenssegers.com/43/realtek-rtl81 ... spberry-pi

Happy to help if you need more help and good luck :)
If you told people in the 1970s that in around 40 years time, a computer the size of a credit card would have 1GB of RAM, they'd have laughed at you.
