Help needed with making final product

Sun Mar 17, 2013 7:33 pm

Hello,
I have recently started work on a Raspberry Pi micro scalectrix lap counter. It is working alright (needs a tiny bit of work) but it is currently all on bread board. I want to create the final product on stripboard, but if possible I would like to have a ribbon cable or similar from the raspberry pi to the stripboard so that it can be easily detached and re-connected. How can I go about doing this?
Thanks,

Okay, I found this:
http://www.adafruit.com/products/1105. Does anyone know if it works on strip board?

I can't see why it shouldn't work on a strip board, just solder the pins down.

Yes, I think that should work (this post should be proof of that: http://www.instructables.com/id/Breadba ... spberry-Pi).
But maybe you could solder a 26 pin box header straight to the stripboard; should be cheaper than using a cobbler.

Sorry, newb alert, what is a box header? A cheaper option would be brilliant.

It's a set of pins like on the RaspPi, but with a box around them. The advantage being that getting the plug in the right place is easier, and they can have polarisation so you don't get it the wrong way round.

The disadvantage is that the two rows of pins are only a hole-space apart, so you have to cut the tracks on the stripboard between holes. That's do-able, but fiddly.

If you're in the UK you could get it for example get it from ModMyPi: https://www.modmypi.com/gpio-accessorie ... Box-Header
The link in my post above shows fairly clearly how it fits on a piece of stripboard (you can see how the tracks are cut between the 2 rows of pins).

Looks great, I think the box header is the best option. Thanks for the help everyone, I will post a new topic with the details when I'm done.
