Raspberry Pi crashes when plugging in ethernet cable

Sat Mar 09, 2013 5:24 pm

I have started to get a problem with my raspberry Pi running raspBMC. If I power up with the ethernet cable connected then it will get to the Raspberry Pi Logo and then go no further. If I leave the cable out the system will boot ok, but on plugging the cable back in the system crashes and goes to a black screen.

I have tried alternative power supplies to try and rule out that as a problem but have had no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Never heard this one before is the Pi fully encased? Is it the power supply cable possibly loose? Or your touching a component when plugging in the cable. I don't know if it's possible to be faulty in this way. Does the device your plugging the other end of the cable into provide power. Known as PoE?

You've tried a different cable?
Or re-used the problem one elsewhere in your network without problem?
