I guess this is no different to an ATX power supply for a PC except it lacks a 12v supply rail.

I paid around CHF 30 (~ GBP 22) via velleman.

I have to say I'm not too keen on the design the mains supply input terminal is rather exposed and very close to the output terminal.
If you have a tendency to move your Pi about the wires could wiggle out (due to lack of cable restraining) and you could accidentally taste the national grid.
As a Velleman product I would have expected better from them like a standard 2 pin mains socket and kept well away from the connector blocks.
I suppose if you're going to enclose this into a box or something it should be fine but I wouldn't use this as a travelling PSU.

Well, I guess it's not a "consumer" style power supply.

You'd have to build this one into a case, as it would be dangerous to operate it without, as you properly pointed out. Furthermore, those 25 Watts would be quite teh overkill if you just were to run your Pi from it. Although, your 5V rail would be rock solid if you choose to do so anyways

I'm using it for an embedded project.

Ditto for a similar product I am using from TDK-Lamba, a very good company with reliable products, that I have ordered power supplies from for work for many years. There are cheapo Ebay versions of this style of power supply if that is your thing, but that is not for me. I am using the LS50-12 (12V, 4.2 Amps), 3 year warranty, Price $20.41 (US) from Digikey. CAUTION: My version is 12V and not suitable to run the pi directly from. There are 5V versions available as well.

I need 12V because I also need to run from a car battery and this allows my pi to run from either a battery or power supply(AC powered) by converting the 12V to 5V, with a toggle switch to select the battery or power supply as the source. I need the high current level because I have various external circuitry. What is great about this is the size, only 3.9"L X 3.8"W X 1.4"H, which allows me to keep my chassis small. As was mentioned, this is not a table top power supply and meant to be put in a chassis. It is air convection cooled, and since my chassis is sealed, I have added a small 12V fan to the rear of the chassis and an intake to the front of the chassis with a removable foam filter. This allows me to cool my pi as well as exhaust the power supply heat. The power supply is available in various voltage and current configurations.
