Raspbmc issues w. HDMI only works with connected Ethernet

Sat Feb 16, 2013 3:17 pm

Hi,

I got a problem with HDMI and Ethernet. I am using Raspbmc in the lastest version. The usb-devices are connected via a powered hub

Whenever the HDMI is plugged in but the Ethernet isn't, there is no video output on the screen ("no signal"). As soon as I plug in the eth I get signal.

I did not have exactly the same expierence with Raspbian. Raspbian was not able to handle Ethernet and WiFi (via USB) simultaniously. The HDMI was functioning all the time.

What could be the reason for this?

Thanks for your help

Not sure, but I would suggest setting up the Pi with a static IP instead of using DHCP. I have no problem using ethernet and wireless simultaneously on my Pi that's running Raspbian Wheezy. Got each connection set to a different static IP address. The other thing you might want to try is to set your HDMI configuration so that it forces a hotplug. That will tell the Pi to always output video on the HDMI port and to never output on the composite port. The Pi sometimes has a problem detecting an HDMI device so it falls back to outputting on the composite port. Those video ports are mutually exclusive.
