AV transmitter 720p h.264

Tue Feb 05, 2013 5:04 pm

I'm trying to do a project where i can send video from a DLSR (such as canon 5d) wirelessly to a monitor.
The goal is to send via the hdmi output to a encoder so it can downrez 1080p to 720p and comrpess to a codec suitable for wireless transfer ( thinking h.264), then the receiver side is outputing via hdmi to the monitor.
Is it faeasible with an encoder (smallest one ) then a version of Raspberry and 2.4ghz modules ?

best regards
J.

Is this a Pi question ?
People started to explore the hardware h.264 encoder only
recently , so there is currently no easy-to-use solution ,
neither for encoding or transcoding.

Yes i edit my first post i meant Pi and not Arduino.
I might use an other board for the encoding part. But i was more interested in knowing is the raspberrry was capable of receiving or sending H264 "live". I know it can read it from sd etc... but read it from an input ( wireless module )and outputing it live trough the hdmi.

What technology do you mean by 2.4 GHz ? WiFi ?
Yes, sending and displaying should be no problem.
Look at XBMC.
Caveat : Custom software is necessary.

Yes wifi or stronger link ( 5.8ghz module used in the RC instustry ).
Ok so i could consider Raspberry to the receiver side, nice.
Let say that i want to use a special monitor drived by the raspberry, does it have the processing power to drive the lcd in 720p and be able to feed it with the video signal ?
Sorry for the beginner question.

Are you talking about a real monitor / TV ?
Not a panel you salvaged or bought cheaply from ebay ?
If its a DVI / HDMI one , no problem. HDMI to VGA adaptors
cost 40$ or so (get ACTIVE ones !) .

Don't try to use random "panels" / "displays" for HD video -
thats a job for an engineer , at least on the Pi.

It would be very good to know what you are going to use
for the physical link. HD content over WiFi could be a bit
difficult , looking at it again.

if i could encode to h.264 the data rate should be able to be handled by those 5.8ghz link, there are HD solution that can transmit uncompressed hd wireless using those. But they are pricey.

Receiver side the raspberry could do the job, it 's the transmitter side which is complex, because it need hdmi input then transcode to h.264

But as i ve searched tonight there aren't many ic solution for "consumer/hobbyist" for hdmi input and hardware encode.

STOP ....
You want HDMI input ?
That's impossible with the Pi , sorry .
Look at this thread , the OP hasn't given up *till today* :

I'm really sorry that i misread your first post.
