USB Port backfeed power?

Fri Feb 01, 2013 6:18 pm

Hello,

I was using my RPi the other day with a 4-port serial adapter. I was using a USB Y-cable. One went to the RPi and the other went to exteral 5vdc.

I went to shutdown the RPi and pulled the power from the Micro-USB and I noticed my RPi was still on. So I pulled the Y-cable power and the RPi went off.

Is that ok?

Can I backfeed 5vdc to my RPi through one of the two USB ports? I have Model B rev 2.

Thanks,
Doug

Yes. This is the preferred means of powering the RPi as it circumvents the F3 Polyfuse problem.
