Installing DOOM/Heretic

Thu Jan 17, 2013 4:46 pm

I have in my possession copies of ultimate doom and heretic, and I wish to install them on my pi. However, I want to be be able to run them without using the desktop application or using third-party programs like Chocolate Doom. I have heard that DOSbox causes it to run really slowly, so I wish to avoid that. I currently have Doom and heretic in a folder in a usb stick. These include the WADs - all the files from the steam purchase (so i have the files legitimately).

I also have no idea what to do next. I'm a total newbie - I haven't any experience with this sort of thing, so I really don't know my next step. Any help would be hugely appreciated (at least so I could find my feet, as it were).

RiscOS and FastBox (DOSBox clone) supposedly run software under emulation quite well.

MS-DOS based software will not run natively as it requires X86 architecture, the Pi has ARM architecture.

I see. Hmm, that's unwelcome news, though thank you.
