Non-functioning mice

Add me to the list of users with non-functioning mice under Plan 9.

I'm running the 12/19/2012 image and I've edited my cmdline.txt file to remove the parameter 'user=glenda' and add the parameter 'kbargs=-d'. For both mice, the last line printed is:

usb/kb... usb/kb... user[none]:

If I don't plug a mouse in at all, the second 'usb/kb...' is not printed.

My mice?

I updated my image following the instructions here:

and noticed the following message at the top of the screen:

Working with 9pi, he fixed the mouse driver to work with my Comfort Mouse 6000. Now to get serious with some Plan 9! Next up, my Intellimouse.

You can add the el-cheapo Onn Optical Mouse from Wal-Mart to the list of non-working mice on Plan9. It works fine with Linux and RISC OS, though.

There's actually no "list" - in almost every case when someone reports a mouse problem, I have worked with them to diagnose it, and if necessary updated the Plan 9 usb mouse driver so that model of mouse will now work. The remaining exception I'm aware of is "Joe Schmoe" who so far hasn't responded with any debugging output.

The first thing to try is installing the most up to date kernel (9pi in the same directory where you got the img.gz file) to your boot partition, and booting that. The next thing to try is adding the option "kbargs=-b" to the command line in cmdline.txt (with the updated kernel). If your mouse still won't work, we need some debugging output to diagnose why not. You can get that by editing cmdline.txt to remove the option "user=glenda" (to prevent starting up the demo desktop) and changing "kbargs=-b" to "kbargs=-d".

it's too bad really, as i was very interested in P9 but you can't pretend to be a cuting edge OS without being able to support usb mice & kbd.
