Scratch Freezes

Scratch locks up apparently randomly after adding or changing a script item. I am running the version bundled with the October 2012 distribution. Any ideas?

There have been two releases since then. Try downloading the latest release which is more stable but Scratch still freezes occasionally.

Try NOT to play sounds more frequently than every three move or rotate instructions. I think that Scratch sometimes overflows the sound DSP stack which caused it to freeze ... but this is only my conjecture.

Thanks. I have downloaded the latest version for Windows and have been using that for development work. So far no hang-ups at all, however, my latest effort only has one sound call, so that may be helping. I will put the latest version on the PI and see how that goes. Its a wonderful piece of software when it is going properly.

Yes, Scratch is a very intuitive tool for getting children started with the concepts of Programming. The grouping of the Control, Actions and I/O commands facilitates a very rapid uptake of the concepts of loops, conditional branches, interrupts etc..

I let my 9 year old Grandson loose with it and am amazed at how quickly he has grasped the concepts.
