how to use a Raspberry to replace a Chromecast (audio only) ?

Fri Aug 28, 2020 5:26 pm

Hello,
how to use my Raspberry to replace a Chromecast used for audio only (no need of video here) ?

I already installed and tested omxvi on the Raspberry and Raspicast on my smartphone.
Both work fine as Raspicast connect correctly to my Raspberry
but eg. Deezer smartphone app doesn't see any device for any casting.

My goal is to :
cast my Android smartphone (apps as Deezer / Spotify)
--> Raspberry (equipped with card digital audio output)
--> DAC / amplifier.

Thanks for attention and help.
Bye

You can't. Any app that uses the official Google Cast SDK such as Deezer won't work with Raspicast or any of the Chromecast emulators. The Google Cast SDK verifies that the target is a real Chromecast before streaming. You can't easily fake it either as the verification relies on checking a device unique key that is signed by Google. You'd need to extract the key from a real Chromecast to pass the authentication check and that isn't easy to do.

Go look on eBay for a cheap Chromecast Audio.

Thanks for rely and clarification.
So I'll need to dig other solution to use my Raspberry.

Any experience or feeling about application Raspotiy ?
It looks a promising solution for Spotify --> Raspberry device.
