apt update not working

Mon Aug 17, 2020 12:34 am

Can someone help me? I'm thinking things have changed since the "Raspberry Pi OS" was released, but I can't seem to find the proper information to update my systems. I have 9 Pi's running in the house and I'd like to use a more automated update procedure rather than clearing the cards and starting from scratch. Over the last month I've been trying to run

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt clean
$ sudo apt update
But at this point I hit a bunch of errors:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt update
Hit:1 http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian buster InRelease
Err:2 http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease
  403  Forbidden [IP: 44.227.76.166 80]
Reading package lists... Done
E: Failed to fetch http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/dists/buster/InRelease  403  Forbidden [IP: 44.227.76.166 80]
E: The repository 'http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease' is not signed.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
I've tried commenting out the source.list and raspi.list files and updating to clear the cache then removing the commenting out and updating and get the exact same result. Any ideas?

sources.list:

Code: Select all

deb http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib
non-free rpi
# Uncomment line below then 'apt-get update' to enable 'apt-get source'
#deb-src http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free$
raspi.list

Code: Select all

deb http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ buster main
# Uncomment line below then 'apt-get update' to enable 'apt-get source'
#deb-src http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ buster main

Try ...

Code: Select all

sudo ap update --allow-unauthenticated
But keep a watch for any weird repositories. Hopefully after that you have certificate updates and it won't need the additional argument any longer.

You might just need a reboot if you haven't done one since the last update?

I wouldn't use "apt clean", perhaps "apt autoclean" instead but I wouldn't use either without a specific reason.

No change, apparently. The 403 Forbidden seems to indicate that repository or mirror is no longer functional. raspbian.rasberrypi.org/raspbian doesn't work in my browser, either.

It doesn't work in my browser either but is ok in the update. It gives me a 404 in the browser but http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ gives me an index and http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbia ... /InRelease gives me the list

There has been a bit of trouble with one of the mirrors recently (South Africa?), perhaps you might just have to wait and hope another mirror is picked.

Well crap. I tried your link from the computer and it doesn't work. I tried from my cell off the WiFi and it works. Now to figure out where it's blocked on my network.

They are mirror pools so you don't always pick up the same server even though it is the same url.

I'm getting 93.93.128.93 at the moment for mirrordirector.raspbian.org I presume it switches by IP.
