General DAC Question

Wed Aug 12, 2020 9:28 pm

I currently have my raspberry pi 3 streaming audio to my hifi system via raspotify. I have read online that DACs improve the audio quality significantly, however I do not know if a DAC will cause any noticeable difference in sound quality since I am only streaming music. Would it be worth it to buy a DAC just for streaming and if yes, is there a good recommended starter DAC? I'm still very much a beginner to the raspberry pi world, so any help would be appreciated.

I think that there are a couple of things to consider...
The quality of your source. Quobus? Tidal? Locally stored Lossless files such as FLAC?
Only you and your ears will be able to tell if you can hear a difference. Speaking personally changing the DAC on my streamer was worthwhile.
