unable to format 64GB Sandisk Ultra

Wed Jul 29, 2020 3:27 pm

I am new to Raspberry Pi and this forum.
I have already downloaded and installed the NOOBS (Rasbian 32 bit) O/S successfully.
Now I am wanting to download Manjaro 64 bit O/S per this You Tube Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwlM1Ws6KC8 on a 64gb SanDisk Ultra Micro SD card.
Kind of funny that these videos never run into problems.

My Raspberry pi is version 4b 8gb purchased in kit form from Canakits https://www.canakit.com/raspberry-pi-4- ... x-kit.html.

I am using Windows 7 pro, and Belena Etcher to flash the card through a built in reader.

Before anyone asks I have tried the Common pitfalls #17 and still have problems.

I took photos but apparently this forum does not allow image downloads so I will explain what is happening.

When I use Aomei Partition Assistant it seems that 3 partitions are created by either etcher or the usb reader.
A 4mg partition with a FAT 12 partition labeled 'K'
A *: 2.91gb partition unallocated.
and *: 56.57GB partition unallocated

So how do I flash this card manually? or?

Thank you for your help.
Steven

For troubleshooting/diagnostic purposes (since that is where this post originally appears) my suggestion would be to use the Raspberry Pi Imager tool to install (for diagnostic/troubleshooting purposes only) a copy of the current supported RasPiOS Buster Operating System.

If that works, and it may well do so, it will prove that your unsupported Windows OS and target microSD card are functional.

That in turn might mean that you need to ask for support in a Manjaro support forum to enquire whether the download you are using is appropriate for use with your RPi4B board.

I've installed the Manjaro image on to a 64GB card. I got one of the latest Manjaro images from here: https://manjaro.org/download/#raspberry-pi-4
(I chose the XFCE version, but I tried the KDE one, and it works fine too, only a little slower to boot up)

To burn/write it on to the SD Card try the excellent Raspberry Pi Disk Imager from here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspbe ... g-utility/
(I've also used other SD card image writers, and they've all worked fine too. The Raspberry Pi Disk Imager has a handy feature buried at the bottom of the "Choose OS" options to let you format an SD card as FAT32, which is sometimes helpful too.)

The Manjaro forum is a friendly place if you hit any difficulties once you're going :)

Hi Folks,

While I did sign up at the Manjaro forum I did not write them yet because I think something else is going on and I went to be sure before I leave here.

1. When I got to this link
there is nothing mentioned about Raspberry Pi. Just their Standard 64 bit program.
2. When I go to the download it only downloads an .iso file.
3. I downloaded and installed the Raspberry pi imager it does not show me any .iso files to install on my microsd card and when I go to custom it wants a .img file to move.

I am hoping I am missing something simple as I have run across several who say that they have downloaded a 64 bit O/S onto Raspberry Pi using Windows 7 to flash the to the card.

Thank You,
Steven

On Windows 7 would use Etcher to create a SD Card from the above download:

I found Manjaro XFCE for the Pi here

https://manjaro.org/downloads/arm/raspb ... pi-4-xfce/

At the top under "Editions" then "ARM" then "Raspberry Pi 4"

It shouldn't be an ISO, it should be "Manjaro-ARM-xfce-rpi4-20.06.img.xz"

I downloaded the new .img file , flashed through Etcher, and installed to my Raspberry Pi without a hitch.

Thank you very much for your help.

With appreciation,
Steven
