own PCB design based on Raspberry Pi 4 schematic

Wed Jul 01, 2020 10:33 am

Hi all,
I would like to ask you, if it is possible to design my own PCB design based on Raspberry Pi 4 and than, use this board for commercial purpose with indication like "design by xxx, powered by Raspberry Pi"? Basiclly redesign Raspberry Pi HW design to my own based on my needs. The reason is, that I need to connect some others ICs and make it like "all in one" solution on one PCB. It is possible to use such a redesigned Raspberry Pi on my own board for commercial use?

Thank you very much for help!

Short Answer: NO!

Long answer: you cannot buy the Broadcom chip(s) the PI is based on, unless you want to buy a few million of them.
The raspberry PI's (full) schematics are NOT available.

If you want to create a solution with an integrated raspberry PI, the RPF has designed the "compute module" for that purpose.

The schematic is not published.

It is a multilayer board. 6 layers?

Farnell have a customisation service though I believe the minimum order quantity is 5000.

I usually just design boards that plug onto the GPIO header, daughter boards(Hats).
Or a bigger board where the Pi is turned over and plugged onto, motherboards.

Everything its much easier that way.
You can use the Compute boards, but I have never bothered.
Zeros with baremetal code are pretty small and fast enough for lots of things.

Or wait for the compute module 4 to be released ... then OP you can do exactly what he want's to

He can do it now, if a CM3 or CM3+ is sufficient...or even a CM1. Might be good practice for when the CM4 is released.
