Speaker Bonnet compatibility with Paprefs?

Mon Jun 29, 2020 12:54 am

I have a 4GB Pi 4 with the Adafruit speaker bonnet installed and working properly as the sole audio device enabled. Would it be possible to use paprefs as described here with the bonnet so I can make use of on-board headphone jack when it would be more polite to do so instead of playing my audio through the speakers?

If so, what changes to the configuration files would I have to do to re-enable the on-board audio? I used the automated scripts from the bonnet setup page, so I don't know exactly what changes it made during installation. I'm pretty much an absolute noob at this Linux stuff.

looking at the setup, it's made to work with alsa which is what raspi uses.
i think installing pulse audio will break the setup.

So am I SOL or does this mean that it's going to require some additional manual configuration to get the bonnet to work with Pulseaudio?

I actually posted this there first before posting it here. Given the usual wait time for replies from their support team for non-defective product questions was already long pre-COVID, I figured that I would hedge my bets on getting feedback by posting the question here as well, in addition to asking my Linux coder friends on Facebook.

But regardless of what the ultimate outcome is of these efforts, thank you for taking the time to reply. It's very appreciated.

from the manual install instructions, all they did was disable the onboard drivers in /etc/modules, commenting(#) that out should make the jack work again, but i don't know what effects it will have on the board.
