Transfer to Samba NAS extremely slow

Mon Jun 22, 2020 12:40 pm

Hey guys. So I hooked up my external drive to my pi 3 B+ via Ethernet and I'm using it as an external drive. For the most part, it works great. However, using the drive is extremely slow, even though it's wired via Ethernet through my router and to my desktop, speeds cap out at like 3MBPS. While it's still pretty useful, it limits what I can do with it.

It's formatted in NTFS, that's the only real problem I can think of that may be slowing it down. From what I understand, Ethernet should support at least 100mbps transfer speeds, but I'm seeing nothing even close to that.

Also, for some reason I can't index the drive. I have it checked under properties, but if I try to add it to a windows library, it says it needs to be mapped. I have no idea what it's asking for. Likewise, under the index, the drive isn't listed, and even showing all locations I can't designate it to be saved to the index. (Z:)

Can anyone give me some tips on what's bottlenecking my NAS. Thanks
