System updates, no space available on micro sd card

Fri Jun 12, 2020 11:55 am

I just got a Raspberry Pi this week.

I installed NOOBS other software with it. It took hours to install.

After the installation, it asked about doing updates. I said, "yes". I let it go overnight.

This morning, there was an error message that there was not enough space for the updates.

The card that came with the Pi has 32gb. I did not install that much software: Raspbian, word processing, etc.,

What do I need to do to get these updates installed correctly? Is there another step that I need for the micro sd card?

After that, how do I run the software (and firmware) updates?

Please advise.

Try the Raspberry Pi Imager program, that will install raspbian (now raspios), not noobs.
https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/pro ... setting-up

If that fails check that SD card of yours, or try using another one.

Shouldn't take that long. Something is wrong here.

32GB should be large enough for the OS and additional software, even with the extra space NOOBS reserves that's not available for you. This sounds like a bad or fake card to me, although 32GB cards aren't usually faked (typically 128GB and above).

Regardless, unless you are aware of some other reason the install should have taken that long (really slow Internet?), it sounds like you may have a bad SD card. It would help to have more system details.

  1. Which model of Raspberry Pi?
  2. Make and model of SD card?
  3. What are you using for a power supply?
  4. How is your Pi connected to the Internet?
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?
