Overheating issue

Sat May 30, 2020 2:55 am

I am excited to learn about the new 8gb rpi version

Is the overheating issue solved in this new product ?

Is the new complete 8gb Rpi 4 desktop kit
suitable to serve as true desktop pc ?

What overheating issue? Pis cannot overheat. They can throttle when they get hot, unusual with the latest firmware, but they cannot overheat.

Received my 8GB model this morning, it currently idles ~ 10c above my 4GB model ( 48 - 51 v 39-40 ).

I should stress that this is an unfair comparison, the 4GB is in an Argon One case (which is basically a large heatsink) whereas the 8GB hasn't found a home yet so is running outside the case.

Ambient conditions vary and will affect your use case but in general I've never had a problem with temps on any of my 4GB models and don't expect any with the 8GB.

There never was an overheating issue.
Perhaps only ill-informed users placing them in tiny plastic cases with no ventilation holes.

My day-to-day 4GB Pi4 (with no fan) has a 300MHz overclock and it still runs cool - it doesn't come close to throttling even when running crazy stress tests.
