It's been possible for years on certain models (2Bv1.2, 3B and 3B+), but isn't quite yet possible on the 4B (beta soon).

It also depends on USB boot support in Manjaro, and for that you'd need to check with the Manjaro developers (they'd need firmware that supports USB boot, and maybe some tweaks to the configuration files).

You could write Manjaro to a USB drive and see if it boots to get your answer.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes it can be done! Just tried today on a Raspberry Pi 4b 8gb.

Disclaimer: I’m a complete n00b.

I booted in to raspberry pi os on a micro SD. I then flashed the eeprom to the latest stable build (as described in various online tutorials). Copied the micro SD to a USB 3 flash drive using the built in SD copier on raspberry pi os. This was mostly to confirm that I can boot from the USB, which I could.

I then took the same USB drive and flashed the latest Manjaro XFCE build on it, using etcher. Plugged it into the a USB 3 port on the Raspberry, and booted no problems.

Getting read speeds of 170MB/s according to hdparm. All I know is YouTube is running smoothly even with a few tabs and word documents open, while also updating software in the background.
