What does it mean when Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has greater RPi support than previously? Does that mean you can install it instead of Raspian? If so, is that useful?

Thank you for the link. I would still like to know what "support" means in this context, however. What does it mean when Ubuntu (or any other LInux distro) adds "support?" It's Linux - why wouldn't it work?

Only the Ubuntu Developers can state the level of support they offer for the ARMv7 & ARMv8 Raspberry Pi Single Board Computers.

Kernel, Firmware, Drivers, Official Raspberry Pi Peripherals, may or may not function or have compatibility issues.

Ubuntu have their own forums, the forum on this board was offered as a goodwill gesture, so you need to ask Canonical

Ubuntu is not a sensitive subject, just that the Raspberry Pi Foundation / Trading offer this forum, therefore the emphasis is on their products and software support. Rightly so they have an expectation that any developer who offers an Operating System should provide their own support.


Support means when something does not work the developers will endeavour to offer a solution.

That is true of MacOS, Windows NT, ChromeOS, iOS, Android and the various BSD, Unix & Linux distributions etal..

Yeah, it's ridiculous.

A bit hippo-critical, as I went in there head first once (Look at the sticky new ubuntu sub forum, second page).
