Raspi-config problem

Mon Apr 20, 2020 1:19 pm

Hi, all,
I am a total beginner at this game - I have installed Ubuntu Mate on a PI-3B, intending eventually to interface to an Arduino Uno. To do this, I want to use the I2C interface. When I open raspi-config, go to the Interfacing Options, and select the I2C interface (option 3), it comes up (incorrectly?) with the option to enable SPI. When I tried to open SPI, (option 2), it says "Programmer Error: unrecognized option".
Is this an error in raspi-config, or have I done something wrong?

The state of being a beginner and the fact of installing Ubuntu are mutually exclusive.

What you've done wrong is not installing plain Raspbian until you're beyond the beginner level.

Then your statement about being a beginner is false. Make your mind up.

So much for the "helpful" people on the RPi forum - you need to get a life, Doug.

I didn't look in detail, but the version of raspi-config that https://ubuntu-mate.org/ports/raspberry-pi/ points at is 3 years old, and might be a bit moldy?

If I were a Pi Newbie, I would start with the OS having the highest likelihood of success: Raspbian. It's built in conjunction with the Pi hardware, and is likely to always support the Pi better than any other distros.

Once you have confidence that your project works on a Pi with Raspbian, then you can move on to the distro of your choice.

5 years old... not really new and moving forward, is it?

Bis - Thanks for your answer. I had been using Raspian, but was interested in moving to Ubuntu because I use that on other machines. I ran into a problem, and was simply looking for suggestions - I had updated the Raspi-config which was installed with Ubuntu, and it still did the same thing, so I was hoping that someone could suggest why, and that the answer would help other people - but then, as you saw, I got the answers from the trolls...

The rest of you: thanks for your 'contributions'. There is good useful stuff on this forum, then there is stuff from people like you - don't bother to reply - I won't be logging in again.

Return to “Ubuntu”
