Controlling Robot Arm Toy

Wed Apr 08, 2020 1:45 pm

Hello all,

I have a Raspberry Pi 4 that I've played with on a couple of projects (with varying degrees of success).

I would like to create a robot arm that others can control over the internet via my device. Most of the relevant robot arm projects are either out of stock or considerably pricey.

My question is: Can you point me in the right direction for the resources needed to control an arm like this with the Raspberry Pi over the web - with a camera pointed at it.

Thanks for your help.

There are certainly prior discussions in these forums about using that model of robot arm.

In addition a quick search with an Internet search tool throws up lots of potentially useful information -

Be aware that some of these references may be somewhat dated and may appear to mandate now obsolete versions of Operating Systems and associated packages. But nothing that cannot be overcome with a little thought.

My suggestion is to master control of the usb robot arm from your RPi as a first stage and add the complexity of web control and camera viewing until you have a better grasp of what is involved.

Good observation @rpiMike. Hadn't read the Amazon description closely enough to spot they had made that an 'optional' extra.
