Boot RPi 4 without monitor

Mon Apr 06, 2020 7:17 am

hi to all
I have a Raspberry pi 4 model B 4GB, I installed la OS Raspbian Buster

I have only problem, the raspberry didn't start without monitor.
I configured wifi and VNC, so when I started my RPi without monitor and I tried to connect with VNC I received a message the VNC connot show the desktop. so when I connect a monitor, it is black without image or desktop. So I rebooted the RPi with monitor (only monitor, without mouse or keyboard), the RPi started and I can connect with VNC and I can remove the monitor.

When I used the RPi 3 model B+ with OS Jessie or Strech I didn't have this problem, but it started without problem and I can connect with VNC.

Someone can help me with RPi 4, do you have same problem? there is some configuration to change to solve it?

thanks for your help

Hi.

If you don't have a monitor connected then the pi4 does not start the frame buffer / desktop if you don't have a monitor attached .

To fix this problem you need to set a default resolution for when there is no monitor attached , this resolution must be different to that of your monitor.

to set the default resolution run sudo raspi-config and go to advanced options > resolution.
