unable to get any OS on my new RaspberryPi 4B

Wed Apr 01, 2020 5:09 pm

Hi there,

I got a brand new RaspberryPi 4 to install a nextcloud server for home.

I tried all the following:

1. put the nextcloudPi image to my SD-Card and started my RaspberryPi
---> no HDMI signal input
2. installing Raspian with Noobs
---> stuck in rainbow startscreen
3. to install Raspian using a SD-card prepared with Raspberry Pi Imager
---> System did not start
4. installing the new bootloader to the Raspberry
5. tried to install Raspian
---> stuck in an automatic login loop (timeout after 60 sec)
6. tried to install Ubuntu using a SD-card prepared with Raspberry Pi Imager
---> stuck with cloud-init.....

Can anybody give me a helping hand? I've no idea what to do any more...

I'm using the original power supply cable and the oroginal HDMI adapter and an Intenso microSD with 32G

Thank you!

The common factor in everthing you have tried seems to be the microSD card, and/or the writer device used to prepare it.

Maybe one or both of those is faulty?

I tend to stick to the bigger names when it comes to memory cards. Kingston, Sandisk, Patriot, Samsung, etc.

I haven't tried an off brand uSD in many years, maybe they're not so bad now but back in the day they were a nightmare.

Are you using an external USB card reader to flash your SD cards? They are preferred.
Some internal laptop SD card readers are not good at writing the larger SD cards >=32GB
PINN - NOOBS with the extras... https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=142574

They can still be a nightmare now. Everything from "My Pi keeps having kernel panics and corruption", to "My Pi doesn't remember anything after a reboot", to "It took over 10 minutes to open a terminal". :lol:

Want to make your own Raspbian image?
  • Hard way: Mess with confusing terminal commands.
  • Easy way: Let Pi-Power-Tools do it all for you!
Boot your image in a VM, Flash from the Internet at top speed, Mount (to drop files in), Edit partitions, Shrink/Expand, Repair, and more. Enjoy! :)
