Setting up a Raspberry Pi 3B

Wed Mar 18, 2020 5:37 pm

Hi there!

I'm having troubles configuring a new raspbery pi 3B.

I have in my office 2 raspberry pi 4b working perfectly. I did not configure them.

I was thinking about doing some home projects, so I bought:
1 raspberry pi 3B;
2 SD cards;
1 power supply (not official - amazon.es/gp/product/B01N4BLIKS)

After configuring the SD card with Raspberry Pi Imager, I tried to boot my raspberry pi 3b.
Only a red light turned on and no image at all.
I tried the same SD card on my Raspberry Pi 4B at the office and it worked great.

After that, I went to the store where I bought the raspberry pi and changed for a a new one and bought an official power supply.
At home, I tried once again and it didn't work...

Really don't know what am I doing wrong....
Are there differences in SD adapters from 3B to 4B? A SD card for 4B doesn't run on 3B? Do you suggest any .img to configure my SD card?

Thanks

1) What happens if you move the SD card that is working (setup) from the P4B to the P3B?
2) Are you using the same type of display for both Pi's? (ie. both are true monitors or T.V.'s not "one of each" - monitors normally use DMT HDMI modes, T.V.'s CEA modes and some T.V.'s have "peculiar" edid data which can lead to a Pi booting but not displaying properly).
3) Raspbian Buster should work fine on all Pi models** - are you installing that O.S. or something else?
Trev.
** See my quick test on an even older Pi model: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... kTest.html
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

Hi, did you (the author) achieve to solve your problem ? I think that I have the same problem. I tried solutions explained here viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151 but it is still not booting. Unfortunately, I do not have a multimeter for now to test the voltage.
