The password is case sensitive so make sure you type it in *exactly* as you did when you changed it.

Just in case the password did not get changed try 'raspberry' (without the quotes).

A trick I used in my admin days was to let users type in the password first (when it asks you for the user name). That way you can check that the keyboard setup is correct.

NB - just in case you missed this bit of info: when you type in the password you will *not* get any feedback from the system; no stars or dots and the cursor does not advance!

Some keyboards (especially wireless keyboards) can sometimes drop or repeat characters which can make entering a password with no sign of how many characters you typed difficult (might have to try several times).

A fix if that happens is to add dwc_otg.speed=1 to the end of the line in /boot/cmdline.txt. You may be able to try modifying cmdline.txt from Windows, but the line in that file needs to remain as one long line, so make sure that your window is wide enough that the line does not wordwrap.

PASSWORD HELP

Wed Dec 26, 2012 11:50 am

I got a Raspberry Pi yesterday. When I type in the login its fine, but when I try typing in the password ("raspberry" because i haven't changed it) it doesn't show, after a while when i have tried several times it comes up with "pi@raspberry ~ $" i type in "startx" then it shows desktop.
How do i login properly? And why is the password not showing?

The password is not shown, this is just how it is - it looks like nothing is happening or your keyboard is broken!

if you see 'pi@raspberry ~ $"' then you are logged in - as user 'pi'

You did everything right and all the expected things happened. Good show!

(BTW, what did you expect to happen - that didn't happen - or vice versa)
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

sir, you literally have saved my life!!!!!!!! i know this post was long time ago but i promised myself that if this worked that i will log in into this forum specially to thank you, you cannot imagine how much time it took me to find a solution for this stupid problem, and i thought that i had a problem with my wireless keyboard !!!!!! turned out that when typing the password it will not show on the system.

and i have formatted my sd card TWICE as i read in other forum that it was the best solution to do that, but it was just that simple.

thank you again sir, VERY MUCH
