Will apps (TV), designed for mobile phones, work on the Pi ?

Tue Mar 17, 2020 5:25 pm

I never owned a cellular phone, smart or otherwise, so... this question may be very dumb :
with Android on the Raspberry Pi 4, will it be possible to download and run so-called "apps"
intended for the Android of "mobile" phones (or tablets) ?
As for home internet access, I'm thinking of switching from a very slow and unreliable aDSL to a 4G-mobile-net based "Flybox" https://assistance.orange.fr/cle-domino ... 900-755986. The subscription would bindle access to a number of television channels, only viewable using an "app" on "mobile" and 'tablets" - not PCs. Is there a chance their television "app" will allow viewing TV on the Pi ?
Note: The URL is to give an idea only of what a "flybox" could be, I am not sure the Flybox I would get from Orange (France) is the model described by that PDF.

Best to post in the Android Community Release thread so it will get attention of the Community Developers:

Though be aware that Android on Raspberry Pi SBC has no official support and some Apps may require Google Authentication.

Though you could purchase an Android TV Box:

Any Android App should run on any Android device so long as that device supports what the App needs to use. Many Apps will have few if any specific requirements so will run on almost any Android device. Others may require very specific capabilities which not all devices support.

So what you will need to do is to find what requirements the App has and whether the Android you are going to use on a Pi 4 will support those. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with either.

Well noted and understood. I will leave then the question to rest until I have
a flybox for hands-on testing, in a month or 2 (virus permitting...)
*Thx* to both of you, @hippy & @fruitoftheloom !
