Hi,

Let's start with the hardware list:
- RPi 4B 4GB
- Official PSU
- Official microHDMI to HDMI
- Projector Viewsonic PX727 (page 50 of the manual clearly indicates it is capable of [email protected] on its HDMI1 port http://www.viewsonicglobal.com/public/p ... G.pdf?pass )

OS:
-Freshly installed and updated Raspbian (downloaded 15th of March)

Steps taken/tested:
- Projector with main PC : [email protected] achieved without problems, I left the projector's configuration untouched as that should be fine and used the same HDMI port of the projector for the RPi. This was tested using Linux Mint.
- Projector connected to HDMI0 (closest to USBC connector) of RPi as it is the only output that seems to support 60Hz
- Added

I have exhausted all the ideas and fixes I have seen on the forum. I also installed Libreelec+Kodi to see if it would solve it, but the same issue is there as well: the max refresh rate on the menu is 30Hz.

Either the Pi is not recognizing the projector properly, or the Pi has not been configured properly.

Try enabling 4k60 using sudo raspi-config.

Use edid-decode rather than edid parser, and post the raw edid if you want analysis.

Hdmi supports a number of different colour formats. Most common is rgb888 which uses 24 bits per pixel.
Yuv (or sometimes called YCbCr) represents images as luminance (monochrome) and then chrominance (the difference from mono for the two colour channels). As the eye is less sensitive to colour it is possible to reduce the resolution of the chrominance channels without perceived loss of quality.
Yuv 4:4:4 is all 3 signals at full resolution, so 24 bits/pixel, same as rgb 888.
Yuv 4:2:2 subsamples the chroma by a factor of 2 horizontally, so effectively 16bits/pixel.
Yuv 4:2:0 subsamples the chroma by a factor of 2 both horizontally and vertically, so 12bits/pixel.

Some displays support some resolutions only in yuv4:2:0 modes. The pi currently doesn't support producing anything other than rgb888. In theory it can do yuv4:4:4 and yuv4:2:2, but not yuv4:2:0.
If your projector can only do 4k60 as yuv4:2:0 then I'm afraid you can't drive it from a Pi. The edid should reveal whether that is really the case.

Sorry, your monitor onlyl supports 4k60 in a mode that the Pi can't generate.
I can see this being another "HD Ready" saga over the difference between accepting 1080p but only being a 720p panel.

Thanks for analysing the EDID.
I have sent an email to the manufacturer to make sure this is the case. It would be a shame to have to build a computer just to drive this projector and having to put the RPi away.

Is the data formatting a hardware limitation? or is it a software limitation?

Hardware.
YUV4:2:0 requires chroma subsampling after composition. I'm not even sure exactly how it is packed into the HDMI signal as lines will vary in length depending on whether they have a chroma line or not.
4:2:2 can be supported as it only requires horizontal subsampling, so every output line is the same.
