Problems with playing video

Mon Dec 24, 2012 4:33 pm

Hi
Hopefully someone can help me as I'm close to tearing my hair out. Basically all I'm trying to do is use the Pi as a media player for the downstairs TV, I have it connected via ethernet to my hub/PC and am using SMB to share the movies on my PC.... the problem I have is they're unwatchable... choppy, stopping and starting, and then out of sync.

What am I doing wrong? I'm using the latest version of Raspbmc

Do I need to overclock in order for it to run them smoothly?

If you need any more information let me know

And thank you in advance for any help

Hello,

I am using omxplayer on rapsbian - the video is of rather quality and Raspi is pretty overloaded (and I do not think that overclocking would help much). If you want use is as media center I would try to read about XMBC and would think about buying mpeg2 codec (your video would be accelerated through GPU rather than through CPU which would definitely help). I'm just guessing here, because you haven't given enough details, but you might have better performance if you go through your router (if you have one). That's how mine is setup and I don't have an issue playing videos.
