Second ever boot up (sorry extreme noob)

Sun Dec 23, 2012 9:15 pm

Ok first of all I apologise for ignorance on raspberry pi, Linux and programming in general and also if this has been brought up before (I tried to find info, but couldn't).

So basically I got the Pi in Summer and booted it up and managed to get to the GUI, I didn't really do much with it at that point. Anyway I've booted it up this December and have the command line screen (the black and white one), when the white text has finished scrolling I know that was where - in the first set-up - I was meant to login, put my password and type 'startx'. Although now it doesn't seem to provide the text that says: 'raspberrypi login: ' so I can't seem to login and get to the GUI a second time.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing incorrectly? I'm really lacking in knowledge on this so please try to use laymen terms.

Thanks in advance :D

So what is it asking for now??

For what it's worth you're probably better off downloading and re-flashing Raspbian again there has been many changes and improvements with performance in the latest release.
It is also possible to perform an update / upgrade from within Raspbian but since you cannot login anyway a re-flash would be your best option.

Possibly corrupt sd card image could be from improper shut down

Lots have things have changed since this summer 2 newer images came out one in September and again in December

Ahh ok, now that you mention it, I may have not shut it down properly. I'll re download the new raspbian and see how it goes, thanks :)
