Bluetooth woes - can't pair Speaker

Sat Dec 22, 2012 6:11 pm

I am trying to pair a logitech bluetooth speaker without success.

Using debian wheezy - after apt-get update:

1. I installed bluetooth and bluez-utils

2. BT dongle is installed and working

3. Scan for speaker is successful and gives [speaker address]

4. Attempting to pair with bluez-simple-agent hci0 [speaker address]

reports

Creating device failed:
Authentication failed

I have waded through pages of google on 'auth failure' but without any real advice.

Anyone got any advice, tips, solutions?

I had the same problem. Solved it by using blueman to pair the speaker. Still have not managed to get any sound out of the speaks though.... There is a bluetooth module for pulseaudio. If I install it I get all sorts of problems. Pavucontrol will briefly show a device but it quickly get dropped and 'shit happens'.
I've had the pi crash, bluetooth die, x crash etc. Still researching.

Strangely I could only pair my mouse and keyboard using bluez-simple-agent...

Thanks for the reply. I think Logitech may be selling a pup with this bluetooth thing - they of course have absolutely no support for problem solving.

I followed this quide: http://nex.scrapping.cc/articles/linux- ... -alsa.html

Maybe it will help you.

I can't use blueman as I've got a headless setup. Trying to find a coherent solution via google is impossible - the bluez website is a nightmare of geekiness!

Pity - the speaker is pretty good - I'm just using the aux-in.

I don't have an iPad so I can't even test to see if it actually works at all - you can't trust those reviews as they basically just parrot press releases!

Further on this: there's evidently something strange about the Logitech bluetooth implementation. I just tried pairing with a cheap Chinese bluetooth speaker - with success.

Okay .... got the speaker working using bluetooth on a 2.1 Android tablet. So, that eliminates a speaker defect!

So, summing up:

1. Bluetooth and bluez installed on Pi

2. Pairing works for generic BT speaker

3. Pairing fails with Logitech speaker

4. Pairing works on 2.1 Android with Logitech

Conclusions ..... WTF!!!!

Try:

hcitool scan

sudo bluez-simple-agent hci0 [mac_bluetooth-device]

sudo bluez-test-audio connect [mac_bluetooth-device]

hcitool con

Thanks .... seems the bt dongle is not compatible. Tried another cheap Chinese one, and pairing works!

Update - it pairs then crashes whenever the speaker is switched off.
