Hello, all! I recently found a 1967 Sears Silvertone Stereo, model 7072, at a thrift store in surprisingly good physical condition. The exterior cabinet needs a little TLC, but it's not damaged and very cool looking.
The insides, however, are shot. The original AM/FM tuner turns on, but the left speakers crackle and pop. The right speakers have almost no power. I'm pretty sure it has a combination of wiring/tube issues that I just don't want to get into.
Basically, I want to disconnect power to the internal unit, replace the speakers with quality in-wall speakers, and run the whole thing from a Pi. Basically, incorporate new technology in the original cabinet. If I'm looking to run something like the Monoprice 8" 3-way in-wall speakers (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=6816), 8 Ohms, 100-200W output, could a Pi with a HiFiBerry drive these? If not, what kind of hardware would I need? Also, what's the best distro for streaming?
I'm trying to avoid buying a separate amp, because I don't want to remove the original tuner - it's too cool looking. That's why the Pi option is so appealing. I just want to make sure I don't under-power myself. Any/all recommendations would be highly welcome. Thank you all!
