PLC Console RPi

Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:13 pm

Hello all,

I've been searching for options to replace an HMI console for a rpi and a 7'' screen.

Is this feasible?

Do I need a RS485/Modbus module to communicate PLC <-> RPi?

Can I make the RPi "understand" what the PLC is sending and put it in some kind of GUI for the operator to read?

Hope I'm making myself understood...

In general, yes it is.

What PLC are you using? If it has Ethernet port, it might be possible to read data from it with a plain Raspbery Pi.

If it has only RS485, then you'll need some HAT or USB converter to use the RS485 bus.

Still I wonder what PLC are you using.

Hi,
I would use CODESYS on Raspberry PI, ( https://store.codesys.com/codesys-contr ... pi-sl.html)
sure this is a full plc runtime - but you could connect by Modbus or which fieldbus you want to the plc.
HMI/Visualisation could be done by the 7" fullscreen in the Raspberry PI browser.
If need you could execute the local webvisu via CODESYS Automation server ( https://store.codesys.com/cas.html) - from outside your network.
So pretty easy to make it accessible to your smartphone, without having huge configuration efford.
