My pi-3b cannot read sd-card

Sat Jan 25, 2020 3:45 am

Hi,
I have a pi-3b and whenever I attempt to boot it, the red led comes on, and the green led goes into a cycle of active - 3 quick flashes - active.
I have measured the io voltage with a voltmeter and it has full volts on the appropriate pins, so I do not think power supply is the issue.
The 3 different boot cards I have used work with a pi zero and a pi zero w, allowing login on hdmi and using usb for keyboard.

I am assuming there is some sort of hardware problem with the sd-card reader. I wonder what else I might try.

Take a neew - SD-card and a new image for cross-checking!

When it runs, old image or/and SD-Card are corrupted!

When the fresh combination doesn't work, something with your Raspi might be wrong ... worth to buy a new one to double-check.

This saves most valuable time of life ...!

Is it a 3B or a 3B+ model?

The 3B+ can boot from USB by default, so you could write a Raspbian image to a USB drive and boot from that.

The older 3B needs to have a special OTP bit set, and for that you need to boot from an SD card, so if you previously haven't programmed that bit you are SOL.

Check the SD card slot for dust or other debris that could affect the connection. Also check for bent or missing contacts, or bad/broken solder joints. If it all looks fine, try pressing the SD card against the contacts while trying to boot it. If you can get it to boot that way you can program the USB boot OTP bit, and then just boot from a USB drive.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

On the pc "Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Vi.2 @Raspberry Pi 2015" So its a 3 I would say.
I blasted the drive with compressed air, no change.

I have already tried 3 different SD cards with the latest image, all of which also work on pi-zero, so not going to buy more, no point wasting money, this was just something I bought as a forced exchange a couple of years ago, never worked, and I decided to have a decent look at it.

I noticed on another thread that a pi-3 was made to work by using the standard raspberry power supply. I have tried a variety of chargers (2.5A) and a USB recharge battery. I will eventually get one of these supplies and see if that fixes it. If so, I will post.

Thanks for the replies and views.
