Confused..

Mon Dec 17, 2012 1:06 pm

Hi all,
This is my first post so welcome to all.

I've recently bought Raspberry Pi and I'm impressed by what it can do, but.. the reason I bought it was to run digital signage, and sadly the performance of simplest transitions / animations using Javascript or HTML5 is slow. So I though, ok, the performance is not there.

But then I saw some YouTube videos with Raspberry Pi running Quake III, or Castle Wolfenstein. Surely if it can run relatively complex games, it should handle two images fading in and out?

My gut feeling is that the browser I used (chromium) is not using the GPU - is that why it's unable to handle animations? Is there a way to improve the situation?

Thanks guys,
Marcin

There is a thread on this somewhere - you'll need to search the forum.
Principal Software Engineer at Raspberry Pi (Trading) Ltd.

I've been saying "Mucho" to my Spanish friend a lot more lately. It means a lot to him.

Chromium is still limited on Raspbian, if that is the Linux distro installed, Midori or Iceweasel (Firefox) 10 are better suited.

Maybe look at XBMC http://xbmc.org for looping a video :?:

Raspbmc and OpenElec Distro's are XBMC all-in-one solutions
