National Instruments USB data acquisition driver

Mon Dec 17, 2012 12:01 pm

National Instruments (who make LabVIEW) have recently released a Raspberry Pi driver for a couple of their lower-cost USB data acquisition modules:

It's not LabVIEW for the Pi - which doesn't and may never exist - but it's a positive sign of support from NI!

I haven't tried this out, it would be interesting to hear if anyone else has...

I have one usb6009 at work but i think it's too expansive for the raspi but it's fun:)
I'll be happy the day they release something like 'data dashboard'...an HMI interface build upon the raspi and a 32'' lcd tv for less than 300€!

The 6009 is expensive compared to the Pi... but the Pi plus 6009 is cheap compared with other embedded data acquisition solutions of the same quality :)

Unfortunately it appears that the current Pi driver from NI is extremely limited in what it can actually do, but hopefully this signifies more support to come in the future - especially if people show an interest in it.

No driver needed, with our Ras-Das-1.

We at WattminderInstruments agree the National Instrument 6009 is expensive.
So we created a versatile, and open, whole Pi-powered Electronic (laboratory) Bench, at less cost than one NI-6008 or similar.
But we need your help to bring it to every geek like you, see our Kickstarter site--

You'll see it is much more than the NI-6009. Please check it out and help us refine it and bring out
future products that relieve you of much tedium and focus on having fun!

I was with you until I saw "Ships within the US only".

Hi Scruss,

Sorry, its just we are new to this international aspect.
We are trying to explore the tax & restrictions, and shipping options.
For Canada, it may not be much different from the US.
You can trust us to make it friendly, cheap and secure as we can.
We'll get back to you with our discovery as we go.
Thanks and Have a great Day!

We'll ship to outside the US.

Our main concern was with the power plug for the USB power supply. The RAS-DAS-1 card itself doesn't care about type of power it's getting (as long as it's 5V, it can come from the Raspberry Pi itself, or from an external power source).
