Would There Be Any Compatibility Issues With Using A 256gb Micro Sd On A Raspberry Pi 4?

Mon Dec 02, 2019 6:40 pm

Here's the listing im thinking about:

https://www.amazon.ca/SanDisk-SDSQUAR-2 ... EQB&sr=8-3

Im thinking of doing a multiboot so id probably have a few smaller partitions rather than one big one if that's worth anything.

Nah, but be wary of Micro SD cards on Amazon they've had issues in the past with mixing fake cards even into batches shipped and sold by Amazon due to the way they allocate warehouse stock. You won't realize there's an issue until your card starts overwriting data.

yeah, immediately after receiving the card use a program like H2Testw to check the card to ensure its not a fake.

Also why such a large card?

I would rather buy two 128G cards than one 256G one.
also it would be cheaper and better to buy an external SSD driver, over USB3

I'd rather buy eight 32GB SDCards (or USB sticks for RPis that can boot from them) and use an external drive when space gets tight.

+1, but an SSD might be faster.

I thought USB booting wasn't currently available on a Pi4

It isn't but it's predicted to be available within six months (or so depending on the difficulty the RPF/RPTL folks have with getting it to work and work reliably).

And you don't actually need USB booting to get the root filesystem on SSD anyway.
