Audio *input* to a pi 4 and Chromium? *solved*

Sun Dec 01, 2019 10:00 pm

What methods do I have to run audio into a Pi 4 for the purpose of feeding into a web browser based program? I thought that the audio jack was a combo headphone/mic but it seems I was mistaken.

The goal is to use Microsoft's translator program running in the web browser to translate text in real time. I've verified the web version works on Chromium I just need to get audio to it.

It isn't an audio jack. It is an AV jack. Stereo audio out and composite video out. I'm very surprised that someone who has been here enough to make 180 posts didn't know that.

Your options are a USB sound card or an I2S interface.

Just in case anyone comes across this and want a "solution" this item on Amazon worked perfectly
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NMXY2MO/

Plugged it in and both the Pi and Chromium recognized it with no additional configuration other than setting the website to allow mic access and setting the default audio input device in Chrome's settings.
